MPs criticise bin collection plan

Quote:
Fortnightly rubbish collections may not work in every area and there is no proof they increase recycling, MPs say.
The Commons local government committee said plans to let councils give money back to people who recycle are "timid" and could encourage fly-tipping.

Its report claimed such schemes were unlikely to change behaviour and said rewards of "as little as £20" would "fall short" of what was needed.

It called for research into the effects of collecting food waste less often.

In addition, it claimed recycling schemes often "confused" the public.

The government has said it wants the UK to stop "lagging behind" on recycling.

About 140 councils in England have adopted alternate week collection schemes.

This is unacceptable, not only will the rat population increase and move into the towns and cities across the country but also there must be a risk of increasing disease due to poor sanitation plus the smell! Why not keep it the same as it is now weekly, oh yes thats right it works so we must change it
