Burning lamb 'beggars belief'

Quote:
five month-old lamb has been set on fire while innocently grazing in a Northamptonshire field.

It is believed a small group of people chased the animal and trapped it. They then doused it with lighter fuel or a similar liquid and set it on fire.

Luckily a quick-thinking member of the public saw the bleating inferno and threw a coat over it, dousing the flames.

The singed lamb was taken to the vet and treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

Owner Barry Lewis said: "I think the mentality of injuring an animal who is happily grazing beggars belief.

"If that fluid had been over its eyes or its head it could have died."

Thankfully the lamb has now recovered - apart from a large bald patch - and is back with its flock.

Police are hoping to talk to witnesses who may have been in Daventry Country Park on Saturday morning.

The attack follows a recent report by the RSPCA of a six-per-cent increase in animal cruelty across the country.

I think that statement just about says it all .. I just cannot believe that anyone could get any satisfaction by doing that too a poor, young, defenceless animal, for no other reason than to cause it pain .. Bring back the Birch !!
