Air guitarists battle it out in Finland

Quote:
The world's finest air guitarists have been in Finland to strut their stuff at the Air Guitar World Championships.

In its 11th year, the event drew a large international crowd as guitarists from 11 countries battled it out for the title.

A two-day High Altitude Training Camp was even set up to get the contestants fighting fit and their guitars in tune.

The Netherlands, Austria, Italy, France and Germany gave smashing performances, but Ochi "Dainoji" Yosuke from Japan walked away with the title World Air Guitar Champion.

He also won a handmade Flying-Finn electric guitar and a Signature Vox amp. donated by by Queen guitarist Brian May.

The air guitar artform dates back to the 1970s when teens were inspired by the electric guitar solos by bands such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

The first air guitar championship was held in Oulu in 1996.
