End of the line for cod and chips?

Quote:
Fish and chips may be about to get more expensive after a report called for a ban on cod fishing in the North Sea.

Scientists have warned a complete ban must be introduced throughout next year as all other conservation measures have failed.

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, the official committee of European fisheries experts, said stocks of cod in the seas around the UK were still very depleted.

This news comes despite a European Union recovery plan for cod adopted in 2004 which limited catches and the amount of time boats can spend at sea.

ICES general secretary Gerd Hubold said: "The bad thing is that we have a rebuilding plan but the stocks are not rebuilding.

"It is not getting better despite all the effort we are putting in. There has not been the improvement we expected."
A much needed ban, agreed, but who is going to be the only ones that obey it ??? ... yep, you guessed correctly, the UK.
