Pipeline for new Xbox

NeXbox?
Microsoft says the next Xbox is already on the drawing board, but the big question is, whatever will they call it?!

Microsoft’s Xbox boss Chris Lewis has said the company is busy drawing up plans for the Xbox 360’s successor, and that they’re keen not to be left behind in the never-ending console race.

“As soon as you develop something, it's old,” he told the gamers over at Kikizo. “We're constantly thinking about the next thing, we have to… you can't sit back on your laurels in this business - the consumer won't let you, the developers certainly won't let us. So that's happening right now."

We’re not expecting a new Xbox until the end of the decade at the earliest, as the 360’s increased power and expandability should give it a longer lifespan than the original console.

Still, Microsoft will have a tricky time naming the new games machine – the 360 was christened in order to avoid seeming inferior to PlayStation 3. Will Microsoft’s next Xbox be called the 460? Somehow, we doubt it.

This isn’t the first next-gen rumbling we’ve heard. Sony’s current console is barely on track for launch in America and Japan, and we’re still bitter over our own delays, but it’s already spouting PlayStation 4 "facts".

Sony says that, by the time PlayStation 4 rolls around, it won’t be using discs at all, having moved its games entirely online, so there’s something to look forward to while we await the PS3!
