Drivers To Get Points For Phone Use

Motorists caught using their mobile phones while driving will have three points put on their licence, the Government has announced. The new law will come into force on February 27. Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander said the law applied to hand-held mobile phones and drivers would also be fined £60.
Mr Alexander said: "Research shows that talking on a mobile phone while driving affects your concentration and ability to react to dangerous situations.
"It's quite simple - it's impossible to do two things at once and do them well. That is why in December 2003 we introduced new laws preventing motorists from driving while using a hand-held mobile. "
The Government will also launch a new publicity campaign to make drives aware of the new changes.
Home Office figures for 2004 show that nearly 74,000 fixed penalty notices were issued for illegal use of a mobile phone while driving.

I think this is a great idea its about time they did something like this,it is unreal the amount of people i see driving and on there mobile at the same time,an accident waiting to happen imo
