California sues car manufacturers

The US state of California is suing six of the world's biggest car manufacturers over global warming.

General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and Nissan are all named in legal documents filed in San Francisco.

Officials claim greenhouse gases from their vehicles have caused billions of dollars' damage to the environment, economy and public health.

The lawsuit is the first of its kind, attempting to hold manufacturers liable for the emissions.

It comes less than a month after California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger spearheaded America's first law on climate change.

That will be an interesting outcome, I doubt it would bother us, in the UK, though, as our ' Exhaust Emission ' control limits are already below those of most other countries

hmmm, the Americans cause much of it....so its only fair....i hope its gone in other countrys like Japan & that ;)
