Camel meat and moonshine

Tromsø Airport in northern Norway can report that passengers have gotten better at leaving their knives and scissors at home, but security personnel still see some strange things.
Security firm Securitas confiscated a total of 5,562 objects at security checks at Tromsø Airport in 2006. This is down 25 percent compared to 2005.
"It looks as though people have improved and become more conscious of what they can carry onto a plane," Gunnar Pallesen, security chief for Avinor, the Civil Aviation Administration, at Tromsø sirport, told newspaper Nordlys.
Since the ban on liquids on November 6, security officers have confiscated 641 units of everything from hair gel to moonshine. And while the number of violations overall has decreased, some very strange objects are being carried by thoughtless or forgetful passengers.
"Some try to take fireworks on board. Others have had their handcuffs confiscated. They tend to try and explain that these things are gifts. Last year we also took three five-liter cans of a mysterious substance that finally turned out to be camel meat," said Torgeir Kristiansen, head of Securitas at Tromsø Airport.
