Custody victory for Misbah mother
Quote:
Schoolgirl Misbah Rana must return to her mother in Scotland, a judge in Pakistan has ruled.
The 12-year-old has been at the centre of an international custody case after Misbah, also known as Molly, travelled to Pakistan to be with her father.
Lesley Philips the lawyer for Misbah's mother, Louise Campbell, said she was pleased with the ruling.
However, Her father Sajad Rana said his daughter was "devastated" by the decision.
The judge at the high court in Lahore ruled that Misbah must be handed over to the custody of the British High Commission within the next seven days.
The youngster left her mother's home in Stornoway and travelled to Pakistan with her 18-year-old sister Tahmina three months ago.
Ms Campbell made at emotional appeal for Misbah's return but the youngster stated publicly that she wished to live with her father, Sajed Amed, and wanted to be known as Misbah.
Proposed compromise
Her mother lodged a petition in Pakistan claiming the youngster had been taken there illegally by her former husband and eldest daughter.
Ms Campbell has not been at the Lahore court during the legal proceedings.
Her lawyer said she had not travelled to Pakistan for health and financial reasons.
A proposed compromise based on a shared custody arrangement collapsed in court after Mr Rana's lawyer insisted that Misbah should only be allowed to see her mother in Pakistan and not be allowed to return to Scotland for at least two years.
The judge had said he considered this unreasonable.

Is this a victory or an outrage? stopping a child from living with who they want in my opinion is not the place of a judge especially when the child is of an age where they can form there own opinion.
