An extra 1,400 troops head to Afghanistan

An extra 1,400 troops are to be deployed in Afghanistan, Defence Secretary Des Browne has announced.
The extra personnel will be sent to the war-torn country from May with the majority being sent over the summer. Most will be based in Helmand province, with some at Kandahar airfield.
The commitment will take Britain's presence in the country to 7,700 troops.

Well well what a surprise NOT after Our pm was just saying that troops were to sent home.Is this ever going to end? Imo get evryone out stay out and let them get on with it why should all our troops put there lifes on the line.

I knew when 'President' Blair made such a fuss about cutting the number of troops in Iraq that he would end up sending more to Afghanistan!!!!! I totally agree with you babe we should bring all our guys & girls home and leave them to it. But while they are still out there we must support them fully, after all it is not their fault they are out there

The whole afghanistan/Iraq war is basically another vietnam. It will only escalate in the next few years. Remember in vietnam the first 3-4 years of the war there were less then 10,000 deaths then it just exploded. I hope I won't see a repeat of that horror in this war. Then again every war is horror. Pray for your troops people. If your not religious then I guess wish real hard the war ends soon with as little loss of life as possible
