Junk food ad crackdown announced

Quote:
Junk food ads during TV programmes targeted at under-16s will be banned, under rules put forward by regulators.
Ofcom says these foods include any that are high in fat, salt and sugar.

There will be a total ban on ads during children's programmes and on children's channels, as well as adult programmes watched by a large number of children.

Health bodies said Ofcom should have banned junk food ads before the 9pm watershed, but the food industry said the restrictions were "over the top".
Quote from BBC News Website

Do they think that banning adverts will stop the kids eating junk???? IMO this will not do anything, what we need is for the prices of the healthier foods to be reduced, at the moment junk food is cheap so the kids are buying it but mat=ybe if healthier options were the same price some kids might buy them, also a bit more health education.

That was my 500th post by the way

Lol, congrats on your 500th post

I agree mate, I doubt it will do any good at all, stopping advertisements. I think that they would be better off stopping the likes of McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc, grabbing every spot of ' Prime Land ' that becomes available and building one of their outlets on it.

Also agree that a price drop in the healthier foods would be an incentive too

Yup, I agree, should make the healthier stuff more affordable. We have gone to less fat and 4 grams sugar or less in the house and I'll tell ya, spend a whole lot more grocery shopping for healthy stuff than bad. lol Go figure.
