'More than 13m' obese by 2010

Quote:
The nation is getting fatter and it is time for us all to take responsibility for our own weight, according to the Government.

More than 12 million adults and one million children will be obese by 2010, according to new figures.

Around a third of adults and a fifth of all children will be obese, statistics from the Health Survey for England - published by the Department of Health - will show.
As a result, thousands more people will suffer related diseases like cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

But despite calls for the Government to do more to tackle the problem, including curbing junk food advertising, Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt said there was a limit to what ministers could do.

"Government's got responsibility to make it easier for people to make healthy choices for themselves, but at the end of the day it's up to each of us to decide what we eat, what we drink, how much exercise we take and how we bring our children up," she said.

Obesity already costs the heath service £1bn a year and costs the nation as a whole around £7bn.
All part of McDonalds ' Master Plan '

People need to start eating a little more healthy. I enjoy some fast food once in a while but I wouldn't do it every day, don't need anything getting out of control...

Yea I agree too. Most of the time I just eat breakfast and dinner, sometimes I'll have lunch if I go get something with someone else. I don't eat a lot of junk foot in between though and I get a lot of exercise with the mowing and umping that I do. A lot of people eat really bad food and don't execise at all which is bad.

Fast food shops have made alot of people to lazy to cook healthy meals, i would shut them all down except fish & chip shops cos fish is healthy for you, McDonalds i woud close , not just for health reasons but also for political reasons.

I never could stand that McDonalds junk .. I once saw someone eating one outside the local McDonalds, and I don't know what was in it, but from what I saw, it looked as though a cat had spewed its guts up, on a flattened dog turd, between the two halves of a bread bun ..

Agree with the above folks,we need to teach young kids how to eat healthy from day one then maybe kids/adults wont get obese.
