Nurses 'need help with paperwork'

Quote:
An increase in paperwork is preventing nurses from spending enough time caring for patients, nurse leaders claim.

The Royal College of Nursing has called for extra investment to help nurses cope with non-essential paperwork, such as filing, photocopying and orders.

A poll of 1,752 nurses found that a fifth of the time of a standard nurse is spent doing non-essential paperwork.

The government said it was vital that nurses spent as much time as possible with patients.
BBC NEWS | Health | Nurses 'need help with paperwork'

The penny has finally dropped!! All we need to do now is persuade the pen pushers in our NHS trusts that patient care is more important than paperwork

I said this years ago when NVQ nursing came in, they get to be hands on and qualified nurses are left doin all the paperwork and is on computors most of the time, but if anything goes wrong, who carries the can?.
I see now that there is research papers and assignments you can buy off the net, all this paperwork encourages deception, but who can blame them when the pressure is so high, most go into nursing to be hands on, but that does't happen nowadays, how do we know we are safe as a patient, do they really have the knowledge or have they bought it. Florence Nightingale would turn in her grave.

When I trained as a nurse we were pilot group for project 2000 and we did half traditional nursing, i have to say traditional nursing was the better of the two, where you had the matron on the ward, now it is nurse managers and they haven't time to come out of their office, often i have had to run a busy ward on my own, its a big responsibility when you haven't time to watch the NVQs, i used to get into a bit of bother when i wouldn't sign the NVQs papers at the end of the day, i hadn't seen them do the work because i was too busy organising and doin paperwork.
