Patient dies after IVF treatment

An investigation is under way into the death of a woman who had undergone fertility treatment at a hospital.
Officials at the Leicester Royal Infirmary confirmed a patient had lost her life on Monday after undergoing IVF treatment at the hospital.

It is understood she developed complications but a cause of death has not yet been identified.

A spokesperson from the hospital said the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority had been informed.

You go into hospital to try to create a life and end up losing yours. I really feel sorry for the remaining family

Agree HB, it is sad when things like that happen, but I suppose it is a risk that has to taken when undergoing things that are not as intended by nature

I hear what u are saying rocol but u wouldnt expect your life to be at risk undergoin IVF, open heart surgery yes

its a terrible when something like this happens, i feel sorry for the rest of the family. ivf is a fantastic thing but as with anything its interfearing with nature to a degree therefore has its drawbacks.

thats a real shame, like you said HB you go in to create life and then lose yours!
is there an underlying ailment that had not been diagnosed? or was it as simple as malpractice or was her number up? hopefuly the post mortem will tell more.
my thoughts go to the family though.

It is very sad but there is a risk with most things, as a nurse myself i would not have thought there would have been much of a risk with IVF treatment
