Plans for televised trials due

Quote:
Plans to allow criminal trials in England and Wales to be televised are due to be published "before the end of the year".

Many believe Lord Falconer's plans on allowing cameras into courts is the first step towards a US-style channel dedicated to high-profile cases.

But Lord Falconer remains convinced that neither witnesses, defendants nor jurors should be shown on TV, the Department of Constitutional Affairs said.

A DCA spokesman said: "Lord Falconer aims to make announcement on the way forward for broadcasting in courts before the end of the year.

"The response confirmed Lord Falconer's very firm view that witnesses, defendants and jurors should not be filmed."

Director of Public Prosecutions Ken Macdonald QC said last year he had "no objection" to cameras being allowed to film the final sentencing stage of successful prosecutions.
That will be interesting, I enjoy watching ' Court Cases ' fictional or not, and I am an avid fan of the ' Judge Judy ' program

sounds rather interesting like you say rocol, however i would not like to see a US style of "TV dramatisation" of what should still be about the court cases!

Some of them are interesting, but now I stay away from them a little more after taking part in a jury. Sometimes the decisions are very hard, as you know you are sending the person away to prison for a while. Just have to go with the evidence.

But I remember watching the OJ Simpson trial when I was younger, it was crazy. I still say he did it...

I did a spell of Jury Duty too, Saurgrist, and it was very interesting ... but I went out and bought a Black Wig, for the verdict announcement, but the lousy sod pleaded guilty at the last moment, so we were not needed.

my fear about this is it would become too americanised, no offence meant to our members from across the pond, cant really see the benefits of televising court cases, all it will do is start another television rights war which no doubt sky would win as they have all the cash
