Plainclothes police officers will join the crowd at Sunday's one-day cricket match between Australia and New Zealand at the MCG in a bid to stop any Mexican waves.
Last week, cricket bosses announced a ban on Mexican waves at all remaining one-day international matches this season.
Offenders have been warned they will be thrown out of the ground while fans caught throwing objects face a $210 on-the-spot fine.
The ban follows a review of security to prevent a repeat of loutish behaviour that marred a match in Melbourne last month.
"The majority of those who misbehave at the one-day cricket matches are young people that come along with the clear intention of misbehaving," Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Gary Jamieson told Southern Cross Broadcasting on Sunday.
"Many that we throw out haven't been drinking."
Meanwhile, Victorian Country Fire Authority members have been given free passes to the game in recognition of their bushfire-fighting efforts.
