Reid shuts door on EU migrant workers

Immigration controls which effectively shut the door on migrant workers heading for our shores have been unveiled by the Government.

Home Secretary John Reid announced new measures that restrict the rights of people from Romania and Bulgaria to work in the UK when they join the European Union in January.

European law means ministers are not allowed to restrict EU citizens' movement but they are allowed to restrict their ability to work.

The move was prompted by a massive influx of Polish workers in the last few years. Original predictions of a few thousand migrant workers reached 600,000 in just two years.

Not before time too, as we all know where the Romanians & Bulgarians will be heading for ... the UK.

Its about time.

well with the imminent joining of the EU the UK has realised after last time that to guess aint good enough, i think last time the were expecting 15,000 and got somewhere in the region of 600,000 . Yes its good that they take all the crap jobs, but if i was PM they would only be allowed in if they are proffesionally qualified, and all the crap jobs would be given to our lazy people who sponge off the state!
