MUGEN character and stage installation tutorial

ok, im going to tell you how to install new characters and stages, thats pretty much all you would need to do to make it playable, you can add more "unecessary" stuff like intros player info, but that just takes to long to install, so i'll stick with the easy stuff.

ok first things first you'll need to download the mugen application from:

no limit winmugen patch

(Note: be sure to download the first one that says "no limit winmugen patch")

then open it, unzip it and your done, thats the beauty of it, no need to install anything to you hardrive,

ok, second part characters, or as their reffered to in the mugen world Chars,
you can basically have any character you want, so here are a few char sites which i use often.

MUGENATION - The world of MUGEN, chars, stages and addons
MUGEN COMICS CHARS

ok, so with these its the same as any other file, download, unzip open,
when you have unzipped your chosen char, open the no limit winmugen patch folder and in side it theres a folder called "chars" open that, and just copy the whole char file you downloaded into it, but be carefull, make sure you check the file structure, most cgars come inside their own folder, so once you have unzipped it it would look like this say if you was using wolverine it would be char - char - wolverine, so to put it the simple way, there will be a folder inside a folder, ok, once you have done this in your char folder in the no limit winmugen patch folder there should be 3 files KFM, readme, and the char you just added.

now to add the char to the game, close the no limit winmugen patch folder then reopen it, and open the file inside it called "Data", in there, there should be a file called "select.DEF" open that, about half way down you should see a line of text that says:

"Insert your characters below." and underneath that it will say "kfm, stages/kfm.def

underneath that text put in the name of char you just added to the char folder, this is the tricky part, inside the char folder yoo added, there will be a .DEF file with the name of your character, so inside your char file there will be just one file with the .DEF extension, copy the name and add it under the kfm, stages/kfm.def in the select file, then save it, remember to load up the game to make sure the char is loaded, when you get to the character slection screen if there is no pic for your character but the name is there, dont worry, some chars do not come with an image, so it should work fine. now you just do the same thing for any char you download, but you can only have a ceretain ammount of chars on the game unless you add a larger selection screen witch i will explain later.

now how to add levels/stages
its relativley the same process as adding chars, but instead you add them to the stages folder, but i will explain it for people who are new to mugen.

you download the stages in the exact same way as the char files, you can get stages from the two sites i posted in the first part of this tutorial.
so once you have downloaded your chosen stage unzip it, and open it then copy the file (be sure to check the structure, remember file in a file,) and copy all of it into the Stages folder in the no limit winmugen patch folder, the go back to the main folder and open the data foldder then reopen the data folder, and open the select.def file, and where you put the char name in before underneath it should say exactly this:

[ExtraStages]
;Put extra stages here. They will be available in VS and Watch modes.
;For example, you can insert "stages/mybg.def".

and underneath that it will say this:

stages/kfm.def
stages/stage0.def

underneath this is where you put the name of the stage you downloaded, being sure to check the name of the stage folder is the same as the name of the .DEF file inside it.

once you have copied the name into the file save and close it, the launch the mugen application.
on the character selection menu you can change the stage by moving the arrow keys left or right after you have chosen your desired character, then press enter to play.

or start if you have a game controller installed.

and thats it, every time you download a new char or stage, just refer back to this. or if your having trouble just message me and i'll be glad to help, and beleive me, i needed quite alot of help when i first started playing.

so, i hope this helps and enjoy the wotld of MUGEN!
