Prospective PS3 owners in for price shock

A report by analyst Compete has revealed that 73% of current-gen console owners believe the PS3 is too expensive.

The report, which was carried out during October, surveyed active current-gen console owners about the upcoming next-gen offerings.

One startling revelation is that 48% of those thinking about buying a PS3 believe that the console will only cost $300, not the $499 and $599 price tags the two SKUs will retail for.

Once informed of the actual price, 60% thought that the price was too high. Including all the people surveyed, 73% felt that the PS3 price is too expensive.

Talking only to PS2 owners, 63% said they might buy a PS3.

When asking Nintendo GameCube owners the same question about the Wii, only 39 percent said they were considering a purchase - an equal number of GameCube owners said they might buy a PS3.

This is certainly a worrying percentage for Nintendo, especially given that Nintendo is considered to have the most loyal fan base of all the platform holders.

It won't bother me what the price is when they first release the PS3, as I shall be waiting until all the ' Bugs ' have been sorted and the price has dropped a few £'s ;)

Yeah, it is a good idea to wait until the next few batches of the systems come out... there are sure to be faults in the first ones, as there were with PS2 and more recently with the X360.

I'm sure the PS3 is gunna be just as good as what we are all hoping for...
The one thing that will let it dow for me is the price of games.
What i mean by that is,i am not used to paying for my games.From the time of my PSX to the Xbox,modding was the way to go and backup games were the name of the day.
I cant imagine that PS3 modding is gunna be easy,Sony wont make the same mistake has what they did with the PS2...
The games are gunna be very dear so only a few will be bought.
But look at it it....It's gorgeous,more like a piece of furniture than a games console.

I have heard that they are already having problems, according to USA Today. In their article, they say that there are already problems with freezing, audio playback, controller malfunction and also problems with backwards compatibility. Already 200 titles do not work on PS3, including Gran Turismo games as well as Final Fantasy. They will try to fix it through firmware updates, but this goes to show you that because of time constraints, there are always problems with the new consoles, as they are always being rushed to ship.

hmm, i've got a PS2, but i'll stick with it for now, cos i've heard that ya cant paly PSone & PS2 games on it :O

Was considering getting one of the first batch but gonna wait now. Heck, there were people out in tents 3 days ahead of time over here!?! Pretty crazy over a gaming system.
